Did you know that you can still train for your soccer skills without using a field or even a goal? Don’t let your surroundings stop you from working on your summer training plans.
In this week’s newsletter, Coach Mike Semenza will discuss some ways you can train for soccer without using a field or goal.🥅
Jogging and Running🏃♂️
Jogging and Running are great exercises to help you improve your endurance, speed, and overall fitness. You can run or jog on a treadmill, in your neighborhood, or on a track. These activities do not require any special equipment and can be done nearly anywhere. (You can even run steps to boost your cardio!)
Plyometrics📦
Plyometric exercises are an effective way to improve your explosive power, coordination, and agility. Some examples of plyometric exercises are jump squats, box jumps, and split jumps. These exercises can be done in a small space, like your living room, garage, or driveway.
Bodyweight Exercises🏋️
Bodyweight exercises are a great way to improve your strength and muscular endurance. Some examples of bodyweight exercises are push-ups, squats, and lunges. These exercises can be done at home, in your room, or in a small space or area. There is no equipment required for bodyweight exercises. If you can double these up with plyometric exercises, you can create one stellar workout.
Dribbling and Footwork🦶
Dribbling and footwork are crucial skills needed for any soccer player. You can easily practice these skills without a field. You can set up cones, bottles, or other objects as markers and practice dribbling drills. These drills can be done in a small space, like your garage, your driveway, or your front yard.
Wall Passes⚽
Wall passes are an excellent way to practice your passing and receiving skills. Find a wall, it doesn’t have to be very tall, and practice passing the ball against it. Then receive the ball back with various parts of your body such as your feet, chest, and thighs. You can also practice wall passes with a partner, passing the ball back and forth against the wall.
To increase the difficulty, 💪set up cones or markers, to create your own training course. Dribble through the cones, pass to the wall, receive, then dribble back. Remember to increase your speed as you move through the drills to help you increase your intensity.
Juggling🤹
Juggling is an excellent way to improve your ball control, touch, and coordination. You can juggle a soccer ball nearly anywhere! Any small space, your yard, on the sidewalk, or even your kitchen – but check with your adults before juggling inside the house. (Some of your adults may not like it!)
Shooting Drills🥅
To practice shooting, you don’t need a goal, but you do want a bit more space. If you can find a wall, the side of your house, or a building, that is tall enough, you can practice shooting against it. Some players even put tape marks on the walls to mark off the top corners and bottom corners.
If you don’t have a wall available, you can practice aiming for the bottom corners of a goal by setting up water bottle targets! 🎯Or aim for trash cans! Get creative!
To wrap up, there are several ways you can train for soccer without a field or goal. The only thing stopping you is your imagination!
The key to success is consistency and dedication, regardless of the limitations you are faced with.
Grab a soccer ball and go have fun!😁
