About Colin

I’ve been racing nearly my entire life, with experience in everything from open-wheel racing, touring cars, to GT and prototypes. In 2020 I won a GT4 America Championship driving with Andretti Autosport, and have been recognized as one of the most winning drivers in GT4 racing in the US. My goal as an instructor is to teach you the “how and why” to improve as a driver. It’s easy to tell you what to do to be faster, but becoming a better driver on track takes more than that.

What's coming across to me is the need to improve my trail braking. When I look at my brake data trace it starts to fall off ok and then it drops very quickly. I think working on that, especially on the slower speed turns might lead to the biggest improvement. In particular, if I can improve my trail braking I also will be able to turn in a bit earlier. Right now my turn in is keyed to my braking but my braking is wrong. I've tried many different lines on T5. I used to intentionally dive-bomb the turn as I see I did in this video. I've also tried staying wide and that doesn't work well for me. What seems to be best is center to left of center but again getting braking right is going to fine-tune that. I don't try to trail into T1 where I really need to carry more speed while keeping the platform stable. About the best I see there right now is around 60mph but I know the car is capable of 65. The solution here might be braking a little later but coming off about the same. I'll give that a try next time in early September.

Colin limited his suggestions to a couple of important action points that could really pay off. This is a lot more useful than the instructors who give you five suggestions for every corner. You need one or two critical points you can key in on.

Absolutely, I've had the chance to race in some extremely competitive environments. My goal is to give you the information I've learned going wheel-to-wheel for many years.

Yes, I do data analysis sessions quite frequently. Data can really help to visualize and better identify your driving habits in combination with video.
I just do track days, are you too advanced of a coach for me?

Not at all! I work with all skill levels across the board in performance driving. It's important to build the right set of driving fundamentals from the ground up.
Can you coach me if I drive at tracks you may not know?

Yes, I've coached and worked at many more tracks than I have driven at personally. All of the same fundamentals transfer regardless where you are driving.
